Open Question: Navy and Air Force Reserve Qusetions and Advise? Open Question: Navy and Air Force Reserve Qusetions and Advise?I'm currently 25 and will receive my AA in the summer of 10. By then I'll be slightly less than two years away from earning my bachelors degree in criminal justice. Furthermore, I'm in the background process towards getting a job for the city. I was initially going to enlist in the Air Force and join the security force detail then finish my education. However, a friend of mine advised me of joining the Air Force or Navy Reserve (under General: Personnel) if getting a degree is my main goal. My plans thus far is to get my AA then enlist in the Air Force or Navy Reserve, complete bmt, complete security force training, then return to Ca in 4 or 5 months to finish my education. However, my friend told me I should wait and attempt the ROTC Program just in case I decide to go full active later on because OTS is very limited, difficult and overly competitive considering I want non tech or Intel jobs. Before I get in contact wait a recruiter I just have some question that I would like to know the answers to and any extra advice or info would be greatly appreciated. Hope to accelerate my life or be in the blue soon. 1.Of my two options which one would be the better choice go reserve after getting my AA or wait and try for the ROTC Program? 2.Is It Possible to do both reserve and ROTC? (I'm undecided about being an officer now but I do want to leave that option open if I decide to go full active later on) 3.Please clarify how deployment works? (I'm under the oppression that I won't be serving more than 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year. However, I've heard that some jobs have a high and long deployment rate also.) P.S. I'm sold on the 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year 4.Is security force considered a high deployment job or low deployment in the reserve? 5.How long and how many times should I expect to get deployed as a member of the security force? 6.If Security force is not available or highly deployed what are some jobs that have a low deployment rate? (I want to say in the area of 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year category) 7.Could I choose any base in the US or would I have to choose one in Ca? 8.Will the Air Force or Navy provide transportation to and from my post being that Travis and March AFB are no where near my resident? (Need I Say San Diego for the Navy) 9.How long and do the Air Force and Navy Reserves enlistment contract work? (Do they offer 2 4 6 years of term services like active or is it just 4 or 8 straight years) 10.Can I go from Air Force Reserve to Full Active Duty? (this is where ROTC would come into play so I could be an active duty officer) More Recent Articles
